Framed Gallery in the Waterloo Arts District of Cleveland will open a new show of work by artist Evita Tezeno March 5.
The show “Whimsy” is inspired by images the artist sees in her sleep. Tezeno, a Port Arthur, Texas native, creates collages influenced by cubism, with color, texture and shape at their core. She translates visions through mixed media with various handmade papers, acrylic paints and found objects.
The opening reception will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m., and registration is requested.
Framed Gallery managing partner Stacey Bartels told Canvas about the show and what visitors can expect.
“Whimsy” by Evita Tezeno opens March 5 – what’s most interesting about the show to you as an observer?
Evita creates bold collages inspired by images she sees in her sleep. Evita translates these images through mixed media, using handmade papers and acrylic paints.
How did you first become familiar with Tezeno’s work?
I first meet Evita maybe 10 years ago at Just Lookin’ Gallery in Hagerstown, Md.
Do you have a favorite collage in the exhibit?
“When the Evening is Silent” is my favorite piece. The collage expresses a feeling of calmness and peacefulness. Last year was a particularly difficult year for me, my leg was broken in 5-6 different places and “When the Evening is Silent” provided me with inner peace.
For those who may not be familiar with Framed Gallery, can you share a little of the history of the gallery and what makes it unique?
Framed Gallery has been open a little over a year. We have a large selection of original art by black American artists. We are a multimedia gallery specializing in original art and hand pulled prints by over 30 different artists.
We exhibit a unique collection of art – many of our artists hang in prestigious collections and galleries, and others are relatively unknown. If you are interested in looking at a great selection of unique art, in a relaxed setting, come visit us.
What else is on deck this year for Framed Gallery?
We will have several solo shows over the next few months, (including with) Tiffani Glenn and Missy Burton. They are coming in April and June. We are getting together our schedule for the fall.
